Are you paying attention to this fiduciary responsibility?

Last week I facilitated a workshop from my basement in Brooklyn with a group of 25 business leaders located in Peru, Brazil, Chile, Canada, Mexico and the United States. The ability to reach such a wide range of people without getting on a plane is one of the undeniable advantages of virtual training. These leaders represent a wide range of business including food, finance, petrochemicals, mining and nuclear energy. Yet despite their different locations and different businesses, these leaders overwhelmingly agreed when I asked them what issue is most important to improve in their organizations. As you can see in the image above, Building Trust & Teamwork is their #1 priority.

Building trust and strong teamwork is important for every organization but it is mission critical in our increasingly diverse workplaces. In fact, it is a fiduciary responsibility. Building connection across difference is also important outside the workplace where our schools, civic groups and organizations are increasingly made up of people from various backgrounds.

WE-building is one solution for building trust across differences of any kind.

The 3 steps of WE-building:

  1. Foster Awareness

  2. Cultural Self-Assessment

  3. Gap Closing Action Plan

The process of building trust does take time and effort but the positive outcomes are rewarding – lower complaints, less division and fewer misunderstandings. WE-building helps us avoid problems and can also lead to positive outcomes like increasing inclusion, productivity and unity.

My mission is to inspire a WE-building revolution where individuals take action to bridge US versus THEM gaps in the workplace and beyond.
